Can you help us raise funds for a new pitch?
I’m delighted to report that we have had another successful season.
On the pitch, both Ladies teams have performed well and go from strength to strength. It’s particularly worth noting the impact of our seconds as they continue to provide playing opportunities for our younger players and act as a nursery for the 1s.
We now have a social hockey session growing out of our Walking Hockey initiative and a Men’s team playing competitive fixtures for the first time in 10 years. Reaching the national finals to lose narrowly was a great achievement.
The junior side continues to flourish and is a credit to all our coaches and supporters. Well done to everyone involved.
Behind the scenes we have an excellent and very supportive committee. This has a real impact on our activities, and I’d like to thank Siân for all the work she has done on the website and online presence. Also, of course, Sue who has done a great job as Secretary “gluing” it all together and working on our pitch renewal project alongside Spencer.
Sadly, one of our committee members Chris Davies died recently whilst on holiday with his wife Vanessa and son Harry. The whole club is saddened by this tragic loss. Our condolences go out to Vanessa and Harry.
We also continue to have an effect across the hockey community, with players (alumni) in National League, and this year saw John Bennett join Michael Wood as our second full home grown International.
Thank you to all our members and supporters for contributing to another successful year.
Adrian Bennett, Chair DHC
Captain: Rhys Hughes, Vice-Captain: Ryan Goddard
Men's training started up only a year ago (May 2024), having fielded teams for a few friendlies and tournaments last year. With plenty of interest for a competitive Men's team, the decision was made to enter cup and indoor competitions. This would be the first time Dysynni had entered a Men's team in an outdoor league or cup in over 10 years, and the first Dysynni Men's team competing indoors ever! Thanks to some great work by Spencer, the men had a new set of smart kit ready for the season.
For the indoor competition, we entered the Trophy (middle) tier of the South Wales Indoor League, competing in Merthyr Tydfil over two weekends in December/January. Winning 7 games and drawing the other, the men comfortably finished top of the table and earned qualification to Hoci Cymru's National Indoor Final and promotion to the Championship division. Having only played half the tournament, John Bennett was the top goal scorer across the division. In the National Final, the men narrowly lost 5-4 to Cardiff & Met 2s in an incredible final match. Having beaten Gwent 12-1, this gave Dysynni the silver medal.
Outdoors, with friendlies against Wrexham, Northop Hall and Aberystwyth University over the summer under their belt, the men's team entered the Challenge tier of the Hoci Cymru Cup. With a bye in the first round, we beat Swansea 6s 6-2 away in the quarter final. We then went on to beat Bridgend 3s 9-0 in the semi-finals. The Cup final against Aberystwyth University was a thrilling, close match, going all the way to the last seconds. The game ended 3-2 to Aberystwyth University, leaving Dysynni as very respectable runners up. What a first season back for the Men's team!
Over the season there has been great development from the youngsters, who've learnt so much from every game. It's also been great to see senior players wearing orange again for both indoor and outdoor, and thank you especially to Ed, Ger, Wil, Sam and Iwan for providing a strong foundation for the outdoor team.
Thank you also to Sue, Lynda, Adrian, Dafs for all the management and coaching support.

The 1s have had a successful season competing in the North Wales League, South Wales Indoor League, and the Cup.
For the league, we played 14 games, of which we won 12 and lost 2. This meant we were playing until the very last second to secure the win, as there were only 3 points (and 8 goals) in it. In all, we conceded 24 goals but scored 67, and finished top of the table!
For the Cup, we had a bye in the first round, and unfortunately lost 3-1 in the second round to a strong Eirias team, who went on to win the Trophy.
This year we also entered the Trophy (middle) tier of the South Wales Indoor League, competing in Merthyr Tydfil over two weekends in December/January. Winning 9 games and drawing the other, we finished top of the table, and earned qualification to Hoci Cymru's National Indoor Final and promotion to the Championship division. Lora Constable was the top goal scorer across the division. In the National Final, the women's team beat Rhondda 10-1 and Cardiff & Met 2s 5-2, winning the Hoci Cymru Indoor Trophy!
This season we've had 23 different players play, and we played every game with a sub, which is an achievement on its own for us. This also meant we had the privilege of having to do selection (yes it was hard) for a game because we had too many players.
We had four debuts throughout the season - a big thank you goes to Leonora, Ella, Freya and Sofia for stepping up and slotting right into the team when we needed you. Not only did we have debuts, we also had some returners who couldn’t keep out of their orange shirts any longer - welcome back to Izzy, Eleanor, Alice, Siân and Rhian, and Lois who joined us for Indoor.
A big thank you to the umpires, coaches and managers, drivers, and especially Lynda, Sue, Crona, Ryan and Andy. And of course thank you to Pippa and Lora, outgoing Co-Captains who are now handing over to Ela (with Siân supporting as Vice-Captain), for all the hours, blood, sweat and tears they've put into the team.

This season the 2s competed in Division 2 of the North Wales Hockey League, in which teams can only have 4 over 18s on the pitch at any time, to help develop younger players. We had 8 league matches, winning 3 and losing 5, finishing 3rd in the table! We scored 10 goals in total, and Molly Hodges and Tilly Papirnyk scored the most with 2 each.
We entered the Challenge tier of the Hoci Cymru Cup. Although we lost in our first game, the quarter finals, away against Cardiff Uni 6s, it was an amazing performance by our youngsters who really stepped up. They showed a lot of confidence and courage playing against a team of young adults from a higher league, even holding the second half to a draw, making this the most memorable match of the season. Special mention to Crona who made her return to hockey after 2 years off due to injury for this match.
Throughout the season, 29 different players played for the 2s, giving lots of opportunities to developing players. Thanks to goalkeeper Alanna, who played every match (and some of them outfield)! And well done to Mari, Elen, Diani, Polly, Jess and Elin, who all had their debuts for the 2s this season.
Huge thanks to Lynda and Lora for coaching, Crona for the match arrangements and to all the umpires. Thank you also to the parents for driving and supporting, and players who played back-to-back games some weeks.

Our boys and girls under 14s teams competed in the North Wales finals at Eirias in March. The girls were first to start, with 3 wins and one loss, they went on to lose to Northop Hall in the semi final. The boys had 2 wins and 2 loses. This meant both teams finished in 3rd place, narrowly missing out on progressing.
Our under 16 girls team became North Wales Champions at Eirias Park. They then travelled to Newtown for the semi-finals of the Hoci Cymru U16s Club Cup. It was a tough competition, but the team put in a good account of themselves. We also entered a boys team in the Hoci Cymru U16s Club Cup, who competed in the North Wales round in Eirias.
Lynda also took two North Wales girls teams to Malvern this year; including under 12 and under 14 Dysynni players. It was a great experience for them all.
Representing Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn, our under 16 boys took part in the regional schools competition. The under 14 and under 12 boys also competed and both came close to taking part in the next round. The school's U14 girls team came second at the U14 Schoolgirl Regional Finals.
This season we introduced indoor hockey for under 16s, it proved popular and improved skills across all players. Some players also progressed to the Senior Indoor sessions and we'll hopefully see more of the youngsters involved in the Indoor league next year.
This year's 6 awards for the U14s went to:

Thank you to all the volunteers and especially Chris Wood for their help in running the gate at Tonfanau Road Racing - vital funds are raised through these activities for the many ball that go over the fence.
Many of our coaches have gained qualifications during the season – Ryan Goddard, Sue Williams, Alice Bennett, Pippa Rollings. The coaches put so much time and commitment into the club. Alice has been running master class sessions recently on Saturdays for players. Lynda and Ryan also coached the Eryri U15 girls team, and Dafydd Jones is the coach for North Wales U13 & U16 Boys teams.
We had 2 young ambassadors join the Hockey Wales scheme this year. Well done to Alanna Fox and Molly Hodges for putting themselves up for the scheme. Alanna has also helped out at junior training all season, and Molly has been doing various volunteering things for the club, including selling kit, and tidying up our history scrapbook records.
Sue Williams was announced Volunteer of the year at the Gwynedd Byw’n Iach sports awards, for the work she does for the club. John Bennett was also nominated for an award, and came 3rd in the performance category.
Boxing Day hockey had a great turnout this season! It was a beautiful day, lots of fun and this year we had the inaugural after match dip in the sea.
Thank you to our 2024/25 Committee and welcome to the incoming 2025/26 Committee - with some new members!
