About Us

Hello and welcome to our club website

Based in the small Welsh coastal town of Tywyn, we are a club with hockey opportunities for everyone. Since our beginning in 1980, we have grown from one ladies team playing on grass to over 150 members of all ages and genders competing in National competitions and inter-club friendlies.

We hope that our website inspires you to get in touch or come along to one of our sessions and join in. Whatever your interest, players (old and new), volunteers, umpires, or parents, a warm welcome awaits you in our town. We even play on Boxing day and on the beach.

All the best, Adrian Bennett, Chair DHC

Our History

Dysynni Hockey Club was founded in 1980, originally playing on a grass pitch at Cae Rhianfa and we had one Ladies team playing in the Dyffryn Teifi Hockey League. The league was largely based in Ceredigion and for many years all grass based.

In 2001, an astroturf pitch was built in the local leisure centre and this transformed hockey in the town. From here, the junior section increased and both girls and boys found themselves playing on the side of the pitch while their mothers trained. The result: a growing junior section soon followed by interest from local men. In 2006, we entered a men’s team into the North Wales League. As our junior side developed we started to produce players who represented Wales at Under 16, 18 and 21 level. The women’s team also rose through the ranks of the League, eventually becoming the top North Wales team in 2020, having joined in 2002.

As the club enters its fifth decade, we celebrated by having two of our ex-juniors win full international honours and Coach Lynda Bennett receiving an MBE for services to hockey in Wales.

Here’s to the next 50.
