The second year of our new competitive mens team has been a successful one! We've competed in the Hoci Cymru Challenge Cup, South Wales Indoor League and some friendlies along the way. 

Indoor

This year, captained by Ed Iffla, we entered the Championship (top) tier of the South Wales Indoor League, after promotion from the Trophy division last year. We competed down in Merthyr Tydfil over two weekends in December/January. With 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses, we finished 3rd in the table and earned qualification to Hoci Cymru's National Indoor Final. In the National Final, with a EuroChampionships qualification at stake, we drew with Swansea 2-2 and narrowly lost 7-5 to Cardiff & Met 1s in a nail-biter of a final match. We'll be back next year!

We also fielded a side in a friendly tournament in Wrexham, with a slightly less experienced side. We played 3 games, winning against Wrexham 4-0, and Eirias 4-2 and losing to Chester 7-0, placing 2nd overall. There were some great performances from the youngsters, Kai in goal, and Cian and Rowan.

Outdoor

With friendlies against Wrexham, Bangor(twice) and Denbigh over the summer under our belt, we entered the Challenge tier of the Hoci Cymru Cup for the second year running. With a bye in the first round, we beat Newcastle Emlyn 1s 7-1 away in the quarter final, a great start to the competition. We then went on to beat Gwent 3s 6-1 in the semi-finals. 

There were a lot of nerves in the days leading up to the final against Cardiff & Met 6s. But having lost the year before in the final, we were back to win. A brilliant game and a brilliant day, the lads played great with some really excellent hockey. Dysynni won 3-0, winning the Hoci Cymru Challenge Cup.  

Training has been really well attended all year, despite being in Dolgellau for part of the season. The quality of the training sessions from John and Daf is showing, the difference between some players from this time last year to now is unbelievable. Its been a great year for Dysynni Men, with a big year ahead as we go up to the next tier of the Hoci Cymru Cup.

Captain: Ela Pugh Vice-Captain: Siân Williams

The 1s have had a successful season competing in Division 1 of the North Wales League, Hoci Cymru Cup and the South Wales Indoor League.

Outdoor

For the league, we played 12 games, of which we won 10 and lost 2. In all, we conceded 12 goals but scored 38, and finished top of the table with a game in hand! Siân Williams was the joint second top goalscorer in the league and Polly Richards was the 3rd most nominated Players' Player in the league.

For the Cup, we faced Penarth 4s away in the first round, who we beat convincingly with a 5-0 win. We then faced Cardiff & Met 4s in the Quarter-Finals, and came away with 3-2 win after a closely fought game. This was the last game on the old pitch! Next came Bangor City 1s in the Semis, some unfortunate clashes and injuries meant we were down to 10 players by the second half and it was a respectable loss of 4-1 to a very experienced team given the circumstances.

This season we've had 26 different players play, 4 different goalkeepers and 5 sets of mums and daughters! We had eight debuts throughout the season - a big well done goes to Molly, Annie, Polly, Aneira, Evie, Anne-Sophie, Layla and Evelyn for stepping up and slotting right into the team (especially Anne-Sophie who only started competitive hockey at the start of the season and had some big pads to fill!). Not only did we have debuts, we also had some returners who couldn’t keep out of their orange shirts any longer - welcome back to Els, Rhian, Alice and Ellie.

Indoor

This year we also entered the Championship (top) tier of the South Wales Indoor League, after promotion from the Trophy division last year. We competed down in Merthyr Tydfil over two weekends in November/January. There was some tough competition, we won 2 games and lost the other 4 by fine margins, finishing 6th in the table. For our first season after promotion to the Championship, we did enough to keep our place and establish ourselves in the top tier - all to play for next year! 

We also fielded an indoor team in a friendly tournament in Wrexham, giving our some of our younger players an opportunity to experience indoor games. We won against Wales Over 35s 1-0, drew against Eirias 1-1, lost to Bangor 2-1 and lost to Wrexham 4-0, coming 4th overall.

Captain: Suzanne Williams Vice-Captain: Lynda Bennett

This season the 2s competed in Division 2 of the North Wales Hockey League, in which teams can only have 4 over 18s on the pitch at any time, with the aim of developing younger players. We had 9 league matches (playing each team 3 times), winning 4, drawing 1, losing 3, and 1 game unplayed, finishing 2nd in the table! We scored 24 goals in total and 27 against. This was a big improvement on last year!

We entered the Challenge tier of the Hoci Cymru Cup. With a bye in the first round, and a forfeit from the opposition in the quarter-finals, we were straight into the semi-finals. We beat Cardiff Medics 3s 2-1, in an amazing win, to secure a place in the national finals! In the finals, we faced a more experienced Ruthin 1s team, losing 5-1 after a hard fought battle, ending our cup run with silver medals.

Throughout the season, 31 different players have played for the 2s, giving lots of opportunities to developing players. Well done to Amelia, Nel, Cadi, Anne-Sophie, Evie, Layla, Laurie and India, who all had their debuts for the 2s this season. Welcome back to Claire and Jane who put on their orange shirts again!

Huge thanks to Lynda, Ela and Ryan for coaching, Siân and Pippa for pitchside support, Pippa for the match arrangements and to all the umpires. Thank you also to the parents for driving and supporting, and of course to the players.

Our boys and girls under 14s teams had various friendly tournaments throughout the seasons, in Colwyn Bay, Denbigh, Bangor, Bala, Pwllheli and Rhuthun, culminating in the North Wales Finals in Eirias in April. Both teams did really well, the girls lost to Pwllheli in the semi finals and the boys came a respectable 3rd. 

In the Under 16s, the boys came 3rd in the North Wales finals with some very close games. The girls won the North Wales finals, and went onto the semi finals of the Hoci Cymru Cup in Welshpool, where they came 4th.

Representing Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn: With the support of teachers Siony Rudd and Lloyd Hughes, the school entered 6 classes of School Hockey Champs once again this year. The Boys U16s came 3rd in the national finals 7-a-side, the U14s came 4th in the North and the U12s came 3rd in the North with several brand new players. The girls U16s were unfortunately unable to progress due to a clash and the girls under 14’s didn’t progress this year.

Under 10s and under 8s have attended tournaments in Tywyn, Northop, Buckley, Llanfair, Caernarfon, Eirias, Bala and Denbigh for the North Wales Cup which we won for the 5th time!  We also placed highly in all the other meets. We had more U8 teams entering this year and a consistent 2 or 3 teams of U10s. Many thanks to all the parents for their support, and in particular to Amelia, Hannah, Catrin and Molly for leading with this age group. Thanks also to Iestyn and Veronica for their help on Thursdays.

Under 12s have attended tournaments in Bala, Ruthun, Eirias (where we took our brand new development team from the Dolgellau Satellite), Bangor, Welshpool, Denbigh and Colwyn Bay for the North Wales finals, where the girls got to the semi finals (including 2 Dolgellau players in the team) and the boys came a gallant 3rd narrowly missing out on the chance to go to Swansea this year. Thanks to Amelia, Ryan, Neil and Iestyn for coaching them throughout.

Whilst the pitch was closed from January to March, all training sessions moved indoors. This is the first time our youngest players have had an opportunity to play indoors. It was great to see skills improving markedly after those sessions and great experience for the players.
